After the adoption of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons at the United Nations on 7 July, 2017, campaigners from around the world chose parts of the new Treaty to read aloud. This reading features our favourite sections, spoken by some of the people who helped realise this landmark document.
The President of the negotiating conference, Costa Rican Ambassador Elayne Whyte, begins the reading. Hiroshima survivor Setsuko Thurlow reads part of Article 6, which relates to victim assistance and environmental remediation.
