Finnish Olkiluoto 3 EPR project is now officially delayed to 2018
Thursday 4 September 2014

The news broke earlier this week, according to the French supplier Areva. That’s a whopping nine years delay compared to the original schedule of starting commercial operations in 2009 and means that the total construction time would be 13 years.

There’s no update on costs with the latest estimate being 8.5 billion euro from 2012.

Earlier this year there was news about the work on site being completely stopped due to disputes between the supplier Areva and the Finnish operator TVO. This was never really confirmed or denied. During the spring, Areva announced they have finally found a workable solution for the I&C system of the power plant, one of the biggest problems.

Areva made the delay announcement without TVO’s consent, which led to a public protest by TVO, asking for an earlier deadline.
